No Globes, No Grammys and No Oscars?

We already saw the Globes announced in a boring press conference. The Grammys are likely to be denied a waiver so that isn't going to be the spectacle it normally would is. Variety has an article floating the idea that there could be two differents Oscars shows.
Amid the pervasive uncertainty created by the WGA strike, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is forging ahead with plans for the Feb. 24 Oscar ceremony. But the Academy is also planning two different shows -- the usual kudocast and an alternative event if the scribes are still out.

Oscarcast producer Gil Cates supplied few details as to what form the alternative show would take, simply saying at a meeting at Acad headquarters that they'd have to "play it by ear," according to one attendee.

But it's likely that the alternative show would rely on industry heavyweights penning their own speeches and presenting the awards.
It isn't clear how there could be an Oscars without writers or actors which is what is likely to happen if the strike continues.

    Grammy Buzz for Blige

Mary J BligeMary J. Blige definitely has the most buzz going into the February 11th Grammy Awards. She received the most Grammy nominations this year with eight reports the L.A. Times' Envelope. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dixie Chicks, Prince, Black Eyed Peas, John Williams, James Blunt and John Mayer each received five or more nominations.
The 35-year-old R&B singer dominated the nominations for the 49th annual Grammy Awards by accumulating eight, including nods for song and record of the year, even though "Breakthrough," which has sold about 2 million copies, was not one of the five finalists for album of the year.

Behind their strong "Stadium Arcadium," iconic Los Angeles rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers — whose lone Grammy award came 13 years ago — earned six nominations. Country trio the Dixie Chicks, funk veteran Prince, Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am, composer John Williams and singer-songwriters James Blunt and John Mayer earned five each.

Earning four nominations each were Justin Timberlake, Gnarls Barkley, Beyoncé, Bryan-Michael Cox, Israel Houghton and T.I.

The Dixie Chicks, bouncing back after the controversy that beset the trio after singer Natalie Maines lashed out at President Bush in 2003, earned an album of the year nomination for "Taking the Long Way," released in May. It will compete against "Stadium Arcadium," Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere," Mayer's "Continuum" and Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds" in that category.
In other Grammy Award news the Doors, the Grateful Dead and Joan Baez will receive special Lifetime Achievement Awards. The Globe and Mail has more about this year's special Grammy awards.
