    Gears of War Dominates 10th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards

    Gears of War has emerged as the dominant game winner at the 10th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards. Gears of War won overall Game of the Year as well as Console Game of the Year, Online Game Play, Animation, Art Design, Visual Engineering, Outstanding Character Performance and Action/Adventure Game of the Year. Gears of War was developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios. Gears of War was also GameSpot's Game of the Year.

    Doom RPG Wins Mobile Game of the Year

    The Third Annual Mobile Entertainment Awards (aka the Mobies) were announced recently at the CTIA Wireless 2006 conference in Las Vegas. Doom RPG from Jamdat won the Mobile Game of the Year award at the 2005 the 2005 Mobies. Here is a list of the winners.

    2005 Spike TV Video Game Award Nominees Announced

    The nominees for the Spike TV Video Game Awards (VGAs) have been announced. Gamasutra points out that the nominees include some games that have yet to launch:
    The nominations for the awards have also been announced, with perhaps the most interesting aspect being a number of nominations for games that have not yet launched. Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie from Ubisoft tops this year's VGA nominations with seven including "Best Action Game," "Best Graphics," "Best Performance by a Human -- Male & Female" for actors Jack Black and Naomi Watts and Michel Ancel for "Designer of the Year." 50 Cent: Bulletproof (Vivendi Universal Games); World of Warcraft (Blizzard Entertainment); James Bond 007: From Russia with Love (Electronic Arts) and Call of Duty 2 (Activision, Inc.) and each have six nominations.
    Gamers can see the nominees and vote online at the Spike TV website. The awards will be announced on December 10th at an awards ceremony hosted by Samuel L. Jackson.

    G4TV Names G-Phoria Winners

    G4TV has announced the winners of their annual G-Phoria game awards. Halo 2 obtained top honors and the most overall awards of the evening. The popular game, published by Microsoft and developed by Bungie Studios, took home "G-Phoria" awards for Game of the Year, Best Shooter, Best Multiplayer Game, Best Sound Design, Best Original Soundtrack, Best Boss and Best Male Voice Performance - David Cross. Sony Computer Entertainment America's God of War also made an impressive mark, winning the awards for Best Action Game, Best Cinematic, Best Original Game and Favorite Character. Additionally, Valve's Half-Life 2 won awards for Best Graphics and Best Female Voice Performance - Merle Dandridge. And actor William Shatner was on hand to honor the legendary Ralph Baer, who created the first ever videogame console and has left an immeasurable impact on the world of videogames.

    Winners of the Mobies Announced

    GameSpot recently announced the winners for The Second Annual Wireless Gaming Awards, also known as The Mobies, at the CTIA Wireless 2005 conference in New Orleans. Presented by GameSpot Mobile and Wireless Gaming Review, The Mobies are designed to showcase and reward the most innovative, well designed, and technically accomplished mobile games of 2004. Awards were given in 10 mobile gaming categories, with the highest honor, the 2004 Mobile Game of the Year, awarded to G-Mode for its simple, but highly addictive puzzle game, Topolon.

    Game Developers Choice Awards Announced

    The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) announced the recipients of the 5th annual Game Developers Choice Awards at a ceremony n San Francisco. Half-Life 2 continues to dominate awards for 2004 games and it continues its streak with the Game Developers Choice Awards. Half-Life 2 won in the Best Game, Character Design, Technology and Writing categories. Katamari Damacy won two awards (Game Design and Innovation categories). Other winners included World of Warcraft (Visual Arts), Halo 2 (Audio), Donkey Konga (Innovation) and I Love Bees (Innovation). A complete list of the winners can be found here on GamersGame.com.

    BAFTA Game Award Winners Announced

    Half-Life 2 continues to accumulate awards. It picked up six awards at BAFTA's second interactive game awards. Half-Life 2's six awards including Best Game, Best Online Game, Best Action Adventure, Best PC Game, Art Direction and Animation. Half-Life 2 also recently won nine Interactive Achievement Awards. The BBC reports that other BAFTA winners include the racing game Burnout 3, which won three awards; Halo 2 (Best Xbox Game); Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (Best GameCube); and Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 4 (Best Sports Game).     Wired Names Rave Award Winners

    Wired has announced the winners of its 2005 Rave Awards. These awards are given to people who Wired says are "reinventing TV and technology, music and medicine, buildings, books, and blogs. They're 15 mavericks and dreamers." In Film, the winner was Brad Bird, who is up for two Oscars for the hit animated action film, The Incredibles. And in Blogs the winner was Kevin Sites, the journalist who has been up-close to the fighting in Iraq. Other categories included Books (Winner: Jeff Hawkins for On Intelligence), Games (Winner: Pete Parsons & the Bungie Crew for Halo 2), Television (Winner: Blair Harrison for iFilm) and Music (Winner: Danger Mouse).     Interactive Achievement Award Winners Announced

    The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) has announced the winners of this year's Interactive Achievement Awards. This is the 8th year the organization has given awards for interactive entertainment. The awards are extensive with 39 different categories. Half-Life 2 (Valve/Vivendi Universal), which won in the Game of the Year category, won nine awards total. Halo 2 (Bungie/Microsoft), which won in the Consule Game of the Year category, won four different awards. World of WarCraft won in the popular MMORPG category. Sly Cooper 2 won the children's consule game of the year. And in the interesting Outstanding Character Performance by a Female category, actress Judy Dench won for her role in the game Golden Eye: Rouge Agent (Electronic Arts).
